Conference' Report

30th september, 2023

I.T.S college of Pharmacy organized a conference on “challenges & opportunities in materiovigilance & digital healthcare system” on 30th september 2023 under the diplomatic guidance of Shri Arpit Chadha, Hon’ble vice chairman, I.T.S-The education group. The conference was organized under the patronage of Dr. R.P. Chadha,Hhon’ble Chairman, Shri Arpit Chadha, Hon’ble vice chairman and Shri B.K. Arora, secretary, I.T.S-the education group. 

The program commenced with lamp lighting ceremony. During this event, eminent experts from the reputed universities and research organizations guided the participants on various aspects of materiovigilance and digital healthcare. This was followed by an introduction to the programme by Mr. Surinder sood, director-public relations, I.T.S-the education group. He welcomed all the guests and delegates. He was delighted to share that digital evolution has given opportunities with lots of challenges. He urged the participants to quantify and learn to use the digitalization process in limit for better life support and longevity. 

Dr. S. Sadish kumar, director, I.T.S college of Pharmacy, who was also the organising chairman of the conference welcomed the guests who cordially accepted our invitation to enlighten our delegates. He elaborated the rapid and growing interest of students in development of medical devices along with the opportunities in green chemistry research. At the end, he thanked the co-ordinator, joint co-ordinators, faculty and volunteers who worked tirelessly in organizing the program successfully. Further, all the guests unveiled the proceedings of conference. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Rajkumari (prof.). Lastly, national anthem was sung before the commencement of the lecture series by our eminent speakers.

 Program started with the introduction of our chief guest prof. R. K. Sharma, green chemistry network system, du & hon’ble secretary, rsc, london by Dr. Madhu verma, professor. The inaugural lecture was on “green chemistry and pharmaceutical industry”. He explained about how the stringent demands of the society to adDress ecological concerns and achieve an economically sustainable environment, have placed tremendous pressure on industries to develop sustainable and socio-economic solutions to the problems related with waste generation. He briefed about the 12 principles of green chemistry viz. Less hazardous chemical synthesis; designing safer chemicals; safer solvents and auxiliary; design to energy  efficiency; use of renewal feedstocks; reduce derivatives; use of selective catalyst; design for degradation; real time analysis for pollution prevention; safer chemistry; prevention is better than cure and atom economy. He ended his session by emphasizing on “green chemistry” as it will not be only be beneficial for the society and the environment, but will make companies economically competitive. 

The next speaker Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, senior principal scientific officer, IPC ghaziabad was introduced by Dr. Neelam singh, associate professor. His topic for the session was “medical device’s regulation & safety surveillance in india - scope and challenges”. He mainly talked about structured materiovigilance programme of india (mvpi) launched by the government of india to monitor the safety of medical devices. He explained the delegates about various types of medical devices and their adverse effects. He also explained the major challenges in monitoring the safety of medical products - awareness among the healthcare professionals and general public, utilization of pharmacists for adverse events monitoring and reporting under pvpi and mvpi, accessibility of reporting tools etc. 

Further, the introduction of Dr. Varun surya, centre for Drug evaluation and research, aiims, new delhi was presented by Dr. Shalini k shawney, professor. He talked on “digital health care system in india”. He discussed about digital health revolution at aiims, that is transforming healthcare by seamlessly integrating technology. It includes a broad variety of advancements, such as aiims-tcs collaboration which includes electronic health records (ehrs), digital pathology, and digital equipment like as barcode printers and scanners. He also emphasized that this advancement improved patient care, encouraged interaction, and optimized coordination, resulting in better diagnosis, increased efficiency, and considerable cost savings. He also provided crucial information on patient’s unique ids, unique health identification (uhid), ayushman bharat health account (abha), and telemedicine that streamlined record-keeping while also permitting rapid access to medical records and increasing overall patient care. In the end of his talk, he highlighted that india is on the verge of a healthcare revolution in which technology will play a critical role in providing quality treatment to every individual with the help of patient care coordinators (PCC).

 Last session continued with ms. Meenakshi sharma, associate professor introducing Dr. Rikeshwer prasad dewangan, sper, jamia hamdard, new delhi. He talked on “immobilized antimicrobial peptides on medical devices: a contact killer against biofilm related infections”. He covered various serious complications reported because of medical devices and prosthetics in human tissues, which forms bacterial biofilms a type of infection reservoirs. He briefed about use of biomaterials for preparations of orthoses (cardiac stents, catheters, pacemakers and contact lenses) and prostheses (orthopaedic, breast, dental implants and valves) that helped patients for survival and better quality of life. During his presentation, he covered the highlights of recent updates on immobilization of antimicrobial peptide and their possible role on manufacturing. He explained about the facts that antimicrobial peptides are considered as a potential alternative against the microbial infections because amps have bacterial membrane lytic action and therefore the resistance effects of bacteria upon amps are less frequent.

All the participants were extremely co-operative throughout the conference. All the queries of the participants were well adDressed by the speakers. A poster presentation session was held during the conference which was evaluated by eminent guests and faculty from various colleges. The participants were evaluated for their presentation and 3 winners were selected as per their performances. The following awards were also given out for the deserving posters.

This conference has prioritized patient safety and technological advancements to deliver better healthcare experiences to individuals worldwide. At the end, Dr. Puneet gupta, advisory committee member gave his concluding remarks for the conference where he appreciated the students for their hard work on poster preparation. He also thanked the speakers for their enlightening presentation on green chemistry, materiovigilance, digitalization in healthcare system & opportunities and challenges of medical devices. 

Ms. Manasvi saini (asst. Prof.) along with ms. Anushka (student) and ms. Fiza (student) smoothly anchored the conference. Dr. Shalini k shawney, professor gave the vote of thanks. The certificate committee distributed the certificates to all the participants. The conference was successfully co-ordinated by Dr. Rajkumari (prof.) and jointly co-ordinated by Dr. Manoj k. Sharma (prof.), Dr. Shalini k shawney (prof.) and Dr. Madhu verma (prof.). All the volunteers worked diligently throughout the conference from registration check-in to delegates check-out
