Session 1: 9:30-11:00am
The session 1 of Day 5 ATAL FDP started with the introduction of Dr. Shekhar Verma, Professor and Principal, Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, by Ms. Meenakshi Sharma along with Dr. Radha Goel. He gave insights into the topic “Design & Development of surfactants based Non-aqueous Carrier System for delivery of Poorly Aqueous Soluble Drugs”. He started the session by showing gratitude to I.T.S and AICTE for organizing the programme.
He started his lecture by refreshing our fundamentals regarding the need for Non aqueous carrier system for delivery as compared to currently used conventional emulsion system. His main emphasis was on problems like efficacy, bioavailability while using poorly aqueous soluble drugs as they are subjected for much research due to their hydrophobic nature. He also discussed the challenges and diversity involved there in. He briefed about activity of surfactants and their combinations that act as stabilizing agents for the emulsions/micro-emulsions. The advantages of non aqueous micro-emulsions he explained were thermodynamic stability, reduced dose, bioavailability and many more. He also highlighted the procedure to prepare anhydrous micro-emulsions with examples. He apprised the participants about the factors to be considered for the experimental design of anhydrous micro-emulsions like interfacial properties, rheological behavior, TEM, drug release & its stability. He also quoted versatile application of this advanced system. At the end of the session, he enthusiastically responded to all the queries of the participants.
Session 2: 11:15-12:45 pm
The session 2 of Day 5 ATAL FDP started with the introduction of Professor Satish Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor, Glocal University, by Dr. Madhu Verma along with Ms. Sagarika Majhi. He gave insights into the topic “Nutraceuticals as therapeutic agents for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome”. He started the session by showing gratitude to the management of I.T.S and AICTE for organizing the programme.
Prof. Sharma refreshed our fundamental concepts of metabolic syndrome whose incidence and prevalence has increased enormously now-a-days. He apprised us with the five risk factors and the diagnostic parameters associated with MS. He briefed us about the safety, medical benefits, prevention and management approaches of MS. He also added that categories like probiotics, dietary fibers, PUFA, prebiotics, antioxidants, vitamins, polyphenols etc. are nutraceuticals in trend. His elaboration about various nutraceuticals like garlic powder, onion, green tea, black pepper etc. specifically acting as cardio-protective, was an eye opener as they may serve as effective alternatives to current pharmaceutical treatments. In a nutshell he emphasized on the recent updates on cardio-protective nutraceuticals used by MS patients in this pandemic era. Towards the end of session, he responded to all the queries of the participants.
Lunch 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM
Session 3: 1:45-3:15 pm
Ms. Sweeti started the session 3 of Day 5 ATAL FDP with the introduction of our speaker Dr. Anurag Verma, Professor & Dean, TMU University, Moradabad, along with Dr. Neelam Singh. His topic for the session was “Role of Nanotechnology in treatment of visceral leishmaniasis.”
He commenced his topic by briefing about Nanotechnology and its use in the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis. He elaborated life stages of sand fly and types, symptoms, pathogenesis and pharmacotherapy of leishmaniasis. He also emphasized on the significance of employment of nanoparticle in the therapy of leishmania i.e., high drug loading, biodegradable carriers, increased bioavailability and enhanced uptake of drug. He later discussed two approaches explored by him used in the treatment of leishmaniasis. The first approach included modified SLN bearing Amphotericin B and paromomycin coated with 2-hydroxy propyl β-CD. The second approach was modified SLN bearing Amphotericin B coated with Vit. B12-stearic acid conjugate. Both approaches can be used orally. At the end he answered all the queries of the participants and also showed gratitude to the management of I.T.S and AICTE for organizing the programme.
Valedictory function
All the participants and Panel Members joined at 3:15 pm. Ms. Sweeti invited Mr. Surinder Sood, Director-PR, I.T.S – The Education Group for concluding remarks. He congratulated the organizing team for conducting such a fabulous event. He praised elite gentry of professional at one common platform. He emphasized on better synergy among the engineering section, artificial intelligence, medical field, robotics and regulatory guidelines, seeing the future prospects and challenges. Successively, Dr. S. Sadish Kumar thanked Mr. Surinder Sood and the management of I.T.S for their never-ending support and encouragement. He also appreciated good team work of the faculty members. The session proceeded with feedback by participants Dr. B.M Sharma, BIT, Meerut; Dr. Rajeev J Mudukavi, Ramaiya University; Samuel Ashique, BIT, Meerut; Dr. Niharika Lal; Sagar Bansal, Shambhunath Institute of Pharmacy; Monika Kaurav, KIET, Ghaziabad; Navneet K Verma, Buddha institute of Pharmacy, Gorakhpur. All the feedbacks were highly encouraging as they congratulated the team I.T.S for such an educative and communicative FDP. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Shalini K. Sawhney, Professor, I.T.S College of Pharmacy at the end of session on Day 5 of ATAL-AICTE FDP.
The session concluded by feedback and test.
