AICTE ATAL 5-day FDP at I.T.S College of Pharmacy REPORT - DAY 4

Event Description

Session 1: 9:30-11:00am

The session 1 of Day 4 ATAL FDP started with the introduction of Dr. Kumud Upadhyaya, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences Kumaun University, Nanital by Dr. Raj Kumari. Dr Upadhyaya gave insights into the topic “Challenges and innovations in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).” He started his lecture by refreshing our fundamentals regarding traditional knowledge including differences between indigenous knowledge & scientific knowledge, traits and ethnic diversity. The west has divided CAM into Ayurveda, siddha, unani, TCM, Homeopathy, aromapathy, Sowa rigpa, faith healing but the system is not recognized. Currently allopathy or modern system of medicine is in trends. Corona pandemic has taught as many things and integrative medicines come into existence including CAM and allopathy. He also briefed about various mind body therapies like meditation, hypnosis, yoga, tai chi, biofeedback, imaginative, relaxation creative outlets. Manipulative and body-based practices like massage, panchkarma, marm chikitsa, chiropractic therapy and imaginary and biologically based practices. He also discussed at par the challenges and diversity involved their in.

Session 2: 11:15-12:45 pm

Ms. Sagarika Majhi along with Co- Host Ms. Snigdha Bharadwaj, welcomed the delegates and dignitaries to Day 4 Session II. The session was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Javed Ali, School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard. He started the session by showing gratitude to I.T.S and AICTE for organizing the programme.
His topic of discussion was LIPID nano-carriers for bioavailability enhancement: challenges and opportunities. He started his lecture with historical time line of the Lipid based drug delivery systems from coarse emulsions to nano structures lipid carrier. He also highlighted in details the advancements of nano structures lipid carriers mainly structure modulation and higher stability. He illuminated the issues of concern with conventional lipid-based formulations and limitations of SLN. He refreshed us with regard to the novel approach of targeting drugs- NLC. He discussed types of NLC, its composition ingredients, potential advantages, applications in oral, parenteral, topical, intranasal, ocular etc. His main emphasis was on oral NLC i.e. Selection of Drug candidates, manufacturing strategy, advantages and shortcomings. He also discussed in brief his project in collaboration with CSIR.
Nanotechnology has expanded exponentially in every field and Professor Javed, touched such a burning topic.  In the last couple of years, nanostructure lipid carriers have attracted diverse scientific and commercial vigilance as alternate carriers for the pharmaceutical consignment. It is foreseen that, in near future, nanostructured lipid carriers will be further advanced in a more efficient, exact and protected manner. Hope this will motivate our delegates to pursue NLC and contribute in our country and professional upliftment.

Lunch 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM  

Session 3: 1:45-3:15 pm

Ms Gurvindar Kaur along with Ms. Meenakshi Sharma hosted the post lunch session. She introduced Dr. Meenakshi Bajpai, Professor and Head of Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, GLA University, Mathura. Dr. Bajpai briefed about rapid growth of market in Asia Pacific regions. This is a golden opportunity for the companies willing to outsource excipients & manufacturing. In her talk, she included global pharmaceutical excipients market value shares and its forecast over a period. She focused on the new technologies implemented to innovate multifunctional excipients and discussed about their increased demand in the market as well as growth of regional market by launch of new products. She elaborated the goals of IPEC and its guidelines, EXCiPACT certification to qualify the suppliers and reduction in costs, audit burden for users and suppliers, QbD projects to regulate the use of excipients. At the end of session, she calmly responded to all the queries of the participants.
The sessions of Day 4 were concluded with online feedback and attendance.
